Patronal Celebration of Saint Sava in Los Angeles
A brisk sunny morning dawned on January 27th, 2019, when the Serbian Church liturgically commemorates the greatest enlightener and the First Archbishop of Serbia, Saint Sava. In Saint Sava’s Parish of Los Angeles, created through equal to the apostolic efforts of Saint Sebastian Dabovic in 1909, final preparations for the celebration of the one who, for centuries, has been teaching and inspiring Serbs all around the globe how to remain on “the path that leads to Life” (according to his troparion), were being executed in haste.
Saint Sava of Serbia and all Orthodoxy, as the true “Homo Universalis” (Universal Man), or we can rightfully use the term “The All-Man” (St. Justin of Celije used this term when speaking of Dostojevski), has once again manifested his universality and all-inclusiveness, gathering together in the temple dedicated to him in San Gabriel near Los Angeles, in love, beauty and majesty (Ps. 132:1) brothers and sisters of various nationalities (in addition to the Serbs and Americans there were Russians, Byelorussians, Ukrainians, Greeks, South Americans, and even one Orthodox man from Taiwan). This all-inclusiveness and universality of his, comes as a result of his lifelong efforts to emulate The God-Man Christ, opening himself for the Holy Spirit, joyfully submitting himself the His Holy Will, as well as from his humble and sacrificial service to the Church of God.
The Liturgical Synaxis was presided by our dear guest Protopresbyter Djurica Gordic from San Francisco, with the concelebration of the diocesan deacon Vladan Radovanovic and the local priest Fr. Predrag Bojovic.
Following the Holy Eucharist as an Icon of the Kingdom of the “Things to Come”, but also, it’s foretaste and realization “here and now”, in which an unusually great number of children and adults partook, a procession around the church led by children and a festal banquet, for approximately 350 attendees, took place. At the beginning of the banquet Fr, Djurica and Fr. Predrag blessed the Slava Bread and Wheat, breaking it, in accordance with the “slava” tradition, with this year’s slava hosts Mr. Emil and Mrs. Jovanka Protic, encircled by the joyful youth of this Parish. Mrs. Darka Raicevic was found worthy to be bestowed upon this great honor for next year and she accepted a piece of the “Slava Bread” from this year’s hosts, with everyone’s approval and applause.
At everyone’s joy and pleasure a wonderful recital and program was performed by the Sunday School children of this Parish and members of the Parish Folklore Group “Kalemegdan”. It was their humble offering to Saint Sava, from their talents and time, and a token of appreciation for all the blessings he bestowed upon us. Immediately following the program, a festal banquet, prepared by the local KS Sisters, was served and enjoyed by everyone. During the banquet the President of the Executive Board of this blessed Parish, Mr. Simeun Radojevic greeted and welcomed everyone, expressing special gratitude to several parishioners who’ve assisted our Parish in the past year. At the same time, he invited everyone to help in great undertakings and many projects recently initiated in this Parish (iconography, installation of the granite parapets throughout the church, landscaping etc.), all in preparation for the great jubilee of the 800 years of the Autocephaly Of the Serbian Orthodox Church, that is to be celebrated at this church over the Labor Day Weekend of 2019.
“Let us praise him, o Serbs, let us sing his hymn trice”, are the lyrics that were entirely fulfilled this year during the Patronal Celebration in Los Angeles. After singing in one voice and one heart the Saint Sava Hymn, the festivities, motivated by the prayerful and grateful remembrance of Saint Sava, were continued into the late afternoon.
Прослава Светог Саве у Лос Анђелесу
Освануо је диван сунчан дан 27. јануара 2019. године када се Црква Божија литургијски сећа највећег просветитеља и првог Архиепископа српског Саве. У светосавској Парохији лосанђелеској, створеној апостолским трудовима Светог Севастијана Дабовића давне 1909. године, ужурбано су текле последње припреме за прослављање онога који вековима учи и инспирише Србе широм васељене како да остану на “путу који води у Живот” (као што и певамо у његовом тропару), Светог Саве Српског и Свеправославног.
Свети Сава, као истински “Homo Universalis”, или можемо са правом рећи и “свечовек” (како je Свети Ава Јустин називао Достојевског), пројавио је изнова ту своју васељенску димензију, када је у храму посвећеном њему, у Сан Габријелу крај Лос Анђелеса, сабрао у красоти, благољепију и љубави (Пс.132:1) браћу и сестре различитих националности (осим Срба и Американаца било је и Руса, Белоруса, Украјинаца, Грка, Јужноамериканаца, па чак и један православац са Тајвана). Ова његова универзалност последица је, свакако, његовог целоживотног уподобљавања Богочовеку Христу, отварања себе за Духа Светога, радосном потчињавању вољи Његовој као и смиреном и пожртвованом служењу Цркви Божијој.
Литургијским Сабрањем председавао је наш врло драг гост, протојереј Ђурица Гордић из Сан Франциска, уз саслуживање епархијског ђакона Владана Радовановића и локалног свештеника Предрага Бојовића.
Након Свете Евхаристије, кaо Иконe Царства “будућих добара”, али и његовог живог оприсутњења “овде и сада”, у којој је учествовао неуобичајено велики број деце и верних, уследила је литија предвођена најмлађим светосавчићима а затим и славски банкет за око 350 присутних учесника овог небо-земног славља. На почетку банкета о. Ђурица и о. Предраг су благословили славски колач и жито, преломивши га, окружен раздраганом дечицом, са овогодишњим кумовима г-дином Емилом и г-ђом Јованком Протић. За наредну годину, ове велике части се удостојила и прихватила г-ђа Дарка Раичевић, те је уз аплаузе и примила део колача од овогодишњих кумова.
На одушевљење свих присутних уследио је затим и пригодан програм, у којем су деца ове Парохије која похађају верску наставу као и деца парохијског фолклорног друштва “Калемегдан”, својим талентима принели њихово скромно уздарје и благодарност Светом Сави, али и богата славска трпеза, коју су припремиле чланице локалног огранка КСС-а. У току славског банкета гостима се обратио и пожелео добродошлицу и председник ЦО Симеун Радојевић, који је, након што се посебно захвалио појединим парохијанима да доприносу и раду, позвао све присутне да подрже нашу Парохију у огромним напорима и пројектима који су започети (иконографија у храму, инсталација гранитних парапетних плоча, уређење порте…), у сврху припреме наше цркве за велику прославу јубилеја 800-годишњице аутокефалности СПЦ.
“Појте му Срби песму и утројте” су стихови који су у потпуности остварени ове године поводом парохијске славе у Лос Анђелесу, будући да је, након једногласно и једносрдачно отпеване светосавске химне, уследила песма и игра подстакнута радошћу молитвеног и благодарно сећања на Светог Саву Српског и Свеправославног.
