On November 18, 2008 St. Sava Church was honored to host 26 members of the California Agricultural Leadership. Their visit was organized by Dr. Peggy S. Perry of Cal Poly Pomona University and V. Rev. Father Petar Jovanovic, rector of St. Sava Church.
The group arrived at the Church at 3:30m p.m. Mr. Jon Reelhorn, the President of Belmont Nursery Inc. introduced the group that included California farmers, ranchers and vine growers from across the state. Fr. Petar provided a background on the Serbian Orthodox Church and its importance in the history, as well as the current situation in Serbia. After questions and answers, the group toured the Church Interior, where it was told about the architecture, mosaic murals and iconography.
At 6:00 p.m., a delicious ethnic food was served. Mr. Reelhorn thanked Fr. Petar on a beautiful presented lecture on Serbian Church and culture. He said: “We will visit Serbia in February 2009 where exciting economic opportunities may unfold. Sharing dinner with you and some of your parishioners was a wonderful experience for us.”
